The Denville Strides consists of boys and girls who are residents of the Township of Denville, between the ages of 9 and 14.

The Denville Striders Track Team is a Division II track team.  Last year Denville finished second place in the championship meet. This year we will compete against Chester, Hopatcong, Long Valley, Stanhope, Madison and Parsippany.

Each town is required to host a home meet.  The Denville Striders are assigned to host the opening meet on April 13th.  All parents are required to participate in home meet assignments.  Please review the home meet assignment sheet (Select this link to view the assignment sheet) and on the first day of practice confirm which assignment you will be responsible for.  We will also look to collect $5.00 from each family to buy the supplies for the concession stand.

Please review the attached schedule to ensure your family can commit to the dates and time. At this writing, 5 of the 6 meets are scheduled to be held on Sundays and one is on Saturday, May 10th which is Mother’s Day weekend.  All meets are scheduled to start promptly at 1:00PM.  All athletes are required to be at the meets by 12:15 PM to start warm-ups. The meets can run 3 hours but this depends on the events your child is assigned.

Track and Field Events (Select this link to view all Track and Field Events)

Each child may participate in four events, 2 running, 1 relay (if selected) and 1 field event (long jump or shot put). There is only one 400 relay team and if there are not enough athletes to field two teams from each age group, the 4 athletes with the best times will be our relay team.

Athletes are eligible to compete in 2 and possibly 3 (if selected) in the following races:

800 meter run

4 x 100 relays – must qualify

100 meter dash

1 mile run

400 meter dash

200 meter dash

Athletes are eligible to compete in one of the following field events:

The shot put

The long jump

The team has grown from a small group of participants three years ago to now over 70 members.  This is due largely to the dedication of the coaching staff and the training given to the runners.

All athletes who register and have an interest in running become part of the Strider team.  There are no competitive try outs to make the team. Track and Field is all about encouraging our young athletes to improve their personal scores each week.  If you have ever thought about or had an interest in running and would like to be involved in a sport which is the foundation of improving self confidence then you should consider joining us.  Not only do you have an opportunity to strengthen your endurance and speed but you also get to make new friends and have fun at the same time.

There is some traveling involved but it is to some of the neighboring towns as mentioned above.

Please sign up in advance by sending your completed forms to the address on the bottom of the registration form. Sign ups are by mail and due to Donna Farrelly by March 21st.
